Although in his entire lifetime India remains firmly under British rule. Yet the projects he envisioned laid the foundation for the nation's development once it became independentcompany. The firm enters the textile business in the first years. In 1898, Hotel Taj in {{w|Mumbai}} becomes the first hotel of such standard in India, and lays the foundation of [[w:Taj Hotels|Taj Group]] of hotels.
