| 1973 || Technology || 10 years before a cell phone was first released onto the market, [[w:Martin Cooper (inventor)|Martin Cooper]], a {{w|Motorola}} researcher and executive, makes the first analog mobile phone call using a heavy prototype model. The communication is carried out between Cooper and {{w|Joel S. | 1979 (December) || Network launch || {{w|1G}}, the first generation of {{w|wireless}} {{w|telephone}} {{w|technology}}, is launched in {{w|Japan}} by {{w|Nippon Telegraph and Telephone}} (NTT).
