2003 June 9 The documentary "Being Terri" airs on British television. This documentary serves as the inspiration for "Swim For Terri", which would morph into the Against Malaria Foundation.[1][2]
2003 December 6 "Swim For Terri" takes place.[1]
2004 June 24 AMF's Memorandum and Articles of Association (in the United Kingdom) dates to this day.[3]
2005 July 19 In the United States, the Internal Revenue Service grants tax exempt status to AMF under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code.[4]
2005 July 19 AMF finishes raising its first $1000.[5]
2006 May The first net distributions due to AMF take place. These distributions are done by the Red Cross.[6]
2006 August 31 The first Madness Against Malaria is announced. Madness Against Malaria is a fundraising tournament inspired by the basketball tournament March Madness. The competition is planned to last from September 2006 to February 2007.[7] AMF acts as an operating partner for the tournament and hosts the website.[8]
2007 May 18 In the United Kingdom, AMF formally changes its name from "The World Swim for Malaria Foundation" to "The Against Malaria Foundation".[9]
2009 April 28 Possibly the first phone conversation between AMF and GiveWell is from this day.[10]
2009 May 7 The AgainstMalaria Twitter account is created.[11]
2009 July 8 AMF reaches 1 million mosquito nets (distributed or funded?).[12]
2010 GiveWell publishes its first review of AMF, ranking it a "Silver Medal organization".[10]
2010 March 30 AMF is first recommended by Giving What We Can around this time.[13]
2010 November 30 GiveWell ranks AMF third on its list of top international charities, and gives it a silver rating. AMF is also listed as the top malaria charity in its list of top charities by cause.[14][15]
2011 December Good Ventures awards a grant of $500,000 to AMF.[16] Cari Tuna announces the grant in a guest post on the GiveWell blog.[17]
2012 December Good Ventures awards a grant of $1.25 million to AMF.[18]
2013 November 26 Holden Karnofsky publishes a post on the GiveWell blog saying that GiveWell plans not to recommend more donations to AMF due to room-for-more-funding issues.[19]
2013 December 12 Following GiveWell's removal of AMF from its list of top charities, Giving What We Can publishes a blog post explaining why it continues to recommend AMF.[20]
2014 March 25 AMF finalizes an agreement to fund 676,000 mosquito nets in the Democratic Republic of Congo.[21] The charity evaluator GiveWell notes that this is AMF's largest single net distribution finalized to date at the time.[22]
2014 December Good Ventures awards a $5 million grant to AMF.[23]
2016 January Good Ventures awards a $22.8 million grant to AMF.[24]
2016 May 5 AMF begins accepting donations in Bitcoin around this time.[25][26]
2017 January Good Ventures awards a grant of $15 million to AMF.[27]
