The competition is planned to last from September 2006 to February 2007.[20] AMF acts as an operating partner for the tournament and hosts the website.[21] 168 teams register for the tournament, which raises $104,000.[22]

2007 January 23 Legal AMF achieves "tax-exempt status as a registered charity" in Canada.[24]

2010 June 17 The Life You Can Save recommends AMF as far back as this date. It cites GiveWell's work.[67]
2010 June 19 Fundraiser (non-swim) Madness Against Malaria takes place again, with the tournament concluding around this time.[68]
2010 June 25 Swim World Swim Against Malaria 2010 takes place.[69]
2010 November 30 GiveWell ranks AMF third on its list of top international charities, and gives it a silver rating. AMF is also listed as the top malaria charity in its list of top charities by cause.[70][71]
2011 February 11 At this point in time, AMF conducts "Post-Distribution Surveys" (PDSs) 6, 18, 30, and 42 months after distribution of nets.[72]
2011 October 19–22 GiveWell site visit GiveWell visits Concern Universal (CU) in Malawi as part of its evaluation of AMF. CU is one of the bednet distributors AMF works with.[73]
2011 November 8 Social media AMF's first Google Plus post dates back to this day.[74]
2011 November GiveWell review GiveWell publishes its 2011 review of AMF, in which AMF is considered one of the two top charities.[75]
2011 December Good Ventures grant Good Ventures awards a grant of $500,000 to AMF.[76] Cari Tuna announces the grant in a guest post on the GiveWell blog.[77]
2012 March GiveWell update GiveWell publishes an update on AMF's activities.[78]
2012 March 15 Money milestone AMF passes the $10 million mark in money raised since inception.[8]
2012 June 29 Swim World Swim Against Malaria 2012 takes place.[69]
2012 September GiveWell update GiveWell publishes an update on AMF.[79]
2012 November 26 GiveWell review GiveWell publishes a blog post announcing its 2012 top charities, placing AMF as one of its three top charities.[80] GiveWell also publishes its 2012 review of AMF.[81]
2012 December Good Ventures grant Good Ventures awards a grant of $1.25 million to AMF.[82]
2013 February GiveWell update GiveWell publishes an update on AMF.[83]
2013 February 1 Starting around this time, AMF begins paying for non-net costs using separate funds (i.e. money not received through public donations).[84]
2013 MayJuly Charity Science launches as Effective Fundraising[85] around this time,[86] recommending AMF as its charity of choice in human rights.[87]
2013 November 26 Holden Karnofsky publishes a post on the GiveWell blog saying that GiveWell plans not to recommend more donations to AMF due to room-for-more-funding issues.[88]
2013 November GiveWell review GiveWell publishes a new version of its review of AMF, in which AMF is removed from the list of top charities.[89]
2013 December 2 The mobile video game Nightmare: Malaria is released. The game is created by Psyop Games in partnership with AMF.[90]
2013 December 12 Following GiveWell's removal of AMF from its list of top charities, Giving What We Can publishes a blog post explaining why it continues to recommend AMF.[91]
2014 March 25 AMF finalizes an agreement to fund 676,000 mosquito nets in the Democratic Republic of Congo.[92] The charity evaluator GiveWell notes that this is AMF's largest single net distribution finalized to date at the time.[93]
2014 August GiveWell update GiveWell publishes an update on AMF. Regarding room-for-more-funding, the update states "We continue to believe that AMF has limited room for more funding (though we believe there are ways in which AMF's actions are being affected by funding constraints) and are not planning to re-recommend it at this time."[94]
2014 November GiveWell review GiveWell publishes its 2014 review of AMF, in which AMF is reinstated as a top charity.[95]
2014 December Good Ventures grant Good Ventures awards a $5 million grant to AMF.[96]
2015 June 26 Swim World Swim Against Malaria 2015 is scheduled to take place on this day. However, the main sources mentioning the event are from 2013, so it's not clear whether the event actually took place.[97][98]
2015 July GiveWell update GiveWell publishes its "May 2015" update on AMF, continuing to recommend it.[99]
2015 August GiveWell update GiveWell publishes an update on AMF, continuing to recommend it.[100]
2015 August 4 Legal AMF is granted Deductible Gift Recipient status in Australia. The news would reach the public on September 3, but all donations since the August date are considered tax deductible.[101][102][103][104] AMF had applied in July.[105]
2015 September 9 At this point in time, AMF conducts post-distribution checkups (PDCUs) 6, 12, 18, 24, and 30 months after distribution.[106]
2015 November GiveWell review GiveWell publishes a new version of its review of AMF.[107] AMF continues to be listed as a top charity.
2016 January GiveWell review GiveWell updates its November 2015 review of AMF.[107]
2016 January Good Ventures grant Good Ventures awards a $22.8 million grant to AMF.[108]
2016 February 15 Legal Tax deductible donations to AMF become possible in Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, France, Hungary, Ireland, Luxembourg, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia and Spain. This is made possible through Transnational Giving Europe, a partnership of various European foundations that takes donations in one country and routes it to the destination country, taking a 5% cut in the process.[109][110]
2016 May 5 AMF begins accepting donations in Bitcoin around this time.[111][112]
2016 June 23 GiveWell review GiveWell publishes a new version of its review of AMF,[113] as well as a blog post announcing a mid-year update to its top charity recommendations. AMF continues to be included in the list of top charities, and GiveWell recommends donors to allocate all money to AMF.[114]
2016 August 15–18 GiveWell site visit GiveWell visits a long-lasting insecticide-treated net distribution program in Greater Accra, Ghana. The program is funded by AMF, and GiveWell's visit is part of its evaluation of AMF.[115][116]
2016 November 28 GiveWell review GiveWell publishes a blog post announcing its updated top charities for end-of-year 2016. AMF continues to be included in the list of top charities.[117] GiveWell also publishes a new version of its review of AMF.[118]
2016 November 28 – December 15 Fundraiser (non-swim) The fundraising event Philosophers Against Malaria takes place. The event raises $58,000 among university philosophy departments for AMF.[119][120][121]
2017 January 9 Money milestone AMF passes the $100 million mark in money raised since inception.[122]
2017 January Good Ventures grant Good Ventures awards a grant of $15 million to AMF.[123]
2017 February AMF posts job postings for two positions: IT Developer and Operations Manager.[124][125]
2017 February 23 – March 8 Fundraiser (non-swim) The Big Varsity Match 2017 fundraiser takes place. The fundraiser is structured as a competition between Giving What We Can: Oxford and Giving What We Can: Cambridge.[126]
