1876 (March 10) Antecedent Scottish-born Alexander Graham Bell, the inventor of the telephone, makes the first phone call.[1] United States
1960 The first fully automated mobile telephone is introduced in Sweden. The system, known in Swedish as Mobiltelefonisystem A (MTA), allows for automated connection from a rotary handset (that’s the circular dialing knob to me and you) mounted within a car, but requires an operator to forward calls.[2][2] Sweden
1962 Mobiltelefonisystem A (MTA) is replaced by Mobiltelefonisystem B (MTB), which uses transistorized mobile sets. This system would last until 1983.[2] Sweden
1973 The first mobile call is made by a Motorola employee. The phone weighs over a kilo and takes 10 hours to charge.[1]
