** Vipul: I would like it if the initial rows with general background on new search engines till ~1995 (as well as some of the later search engine rows) were removed; there's a timeline timeline of web search engines for those that has pretty similar stuff. If there is information in the timeline of SEO that isn't there in the timeline of web search engines, it would be good to use that to enhance the timeline of web search engines. If you think specific rows are important to understanding SEO, you can keep them in timeline of SEO. I think the rows about Google algorithm updates are okay to keep in this timeline, even though they are also in timeline of Google Search, because I see that the ones you have included are ones with significant SEO implications, and you have explained the implications in the respective timeline row.✔

** Vipul: There are two rows on the creation of BackRub, for 1996 and 1998. I think the 1998 one should be removed.✔ (Sebastian: moved to Timeline of web search engines)

** Vipul: See if you can provide more historical context/events around terminology and practice of keyword stuffing, link farms✔, cloaking✔, doorway pages✔, spamdexing✔, link building✔, as well as any other SEO concepts✔ (Sebastian: See type of event value "Spamdexing"). Since many of these started in the late 1990s, there may not be good historical records for them. So it's okay to give a range of years during which we know the practice emerged, but they should get mentioned in the timeline.

** Vipul: Maybe add more events around the launches of SEO websites, like searchengineland.com?✔ (Sebastian: A number of websites added, including blogs and SEO tools)

* New timeline: Timeline of infection control; this timeline should cover ideas in infection control like qurantines, cordon sanitaire, social distancing, contact tracing, hand washing, etc. There will be some overlap with timeline of epidemiology but it will be much more focused on the practical steps involved with infection control, using pandemics and epidemics as illustrative cases for how good the practice is at any given time.

** Vipul's reasons for marking as priority work:
 +
*** Pageviews (sufficient in isolation): The timeline has had over 5,000 views since the last significant update on 2018-07-15 (list of all work on the timeline). It therefore clearly qualifies per the heuristic of "at least 1,000 views since the last significant update."
 +
*** Time since last update: The timeline has not been significantly updated for two years, which therefore passes the filter "don't update timelines more frequently than once a year."
 +
*** Qualitative outdatedness: There have been many updates, particularly on the competition front (including the launch of Disney+).
 +
*** Topicality: Netflix has benefited in revenue from COVID-19 stay-at-home, and traffic to the timeline has also increased. It may be worth capturing this interest better.
 +
*** Cannibalization opportunity from Wikipedia: The corresponding timeline on Wikipedia gets over 10,000 pageviews per month, despite being less detailed and not particularly up-to-date either. There is significant upside if we can beat Wikipedia in search engine rankings.

** Vipul: I know that in the past, I had asked to include all Netflix original content in the full timeline. However, given the significant scaling up of original content by Netflix, I think it is better to only keep in the full timeline the original content that was significant in some way (e.g., the first original content, the first original content in some language, all-time top-performing content). Instead, I suggest a separate section that summarizes, by year, the number and possibly a list of original content in that year.

** Vipul's reasons for marking as priority work:
 +
*** Pageviews: The timeline has had 500 pageviews since being published 2018-06-01. It's halfway to the 1000-pageview mark that is sufficient to trigger an expansion.
 +
*** Time since last update: The timeline was last updated 2018-06-01, so it is a little over two years old. This passes the minimum threshold of one year, but is not enough to be sufficient for an expansion.

* Timeline of SpaceX (Expansion started on June 3, 2020)

* Timeline of infection control: I think this is pretty much ready!
** Vipul: I think the big picture should include a row for the period from 2001 to 2006.
+
** Vipul: Maybe add some information on when masks first started becoming popular as a means to fight airborne viral illnesses, such as influenza and coronaviruses? I believe SARS 2003 was a starting point, but please check.
** Vipul: I suggest restructuring the big picture to have a single row for the 2017 to 2020 period, and then have a "Highlights by year" version of the big picture that has a summary row for each year. Currently the big picture starts off at multi-year granularity, and ends up at single-year granularity, which isn't ideal (I think).
+
** Vipul: Also add information on the tipping point of masks becoming a recommendation around the world for COVID-19?
** Vipul: Can you add Wikipedia views and Google Trends? For Wikipedia Views, I'd like information not just for SpaceX Wikipedia page but also for Wikipedia pages related to SpaceX (I can guide more on this).
+
** Vipul: Maybe discuss specific physical distance guidelines in social distancing reecommmendations (e.g, 1.5m, 2m, 6ft).
** Vipul: Talk more about competition, e.g,, the Jeff Bezos-backed Blue Origin, and possibly others?
+
** Vipul: Perhaps talk about the idea of "hygiene theater" (Google it) -- a disproportionate focus on cleaning surfaces in the context of COVID-19 that is primarily airborne.
** Vipul: Possibly include a few more background events before 2001 on the history of space flight, and the role, or lack thereof, of private companies in space flight?

** Vipul: Perhaps add a row on Musk selling/leaving PayPal in 2001 (which explains him switching to SpaceX) and other companies he is working on (to provide more context on his time-split and conflicts of interest)?

Priority work from Vipul

By September 1, 2020

  • Timeline of Netflix (expansion)
    • Vipul's reasons for marking as priority work:
      • Pageviews (sufficient in isolation): The timeline has had over 5,000 views since the last significant update on 2018-07-15 (list of all work on the timeline). It therefore clearly qualifies per the heuristic of "at least 1,000 views since the last significant update."
      • Time since last update: The timeline has not been significantly updated for two years, which therefore passes the filter "don't update timelines more frequently than once a year."
      • Qualitative outdatedness: There have been many updates, particularly on the competition front (including the launch of Disney+).
      • Topicality: Netflix has benefited in revenue from COVID-19 stay-at-home, and traffic to the timeline has also increased. It may be worth capturing this interest better.
      • Cannibalization opportunity from Wikipedia: The corresponding timeline on Wikipedia gets over 10,000 pageviews per month, despite being less detailed and not particularly up-to-date either. There is significant upside if we can beat Wikipedia in search engine rankings.
    • Sebastian: Google Trends and Wikipedia Views.
    • Vipul: I know that in the past, I had asked to include all Netflix original content in the full timeline.

  • Timeline of face masks (new timeline):
    • Vipul's reasons for marking as priority work:
      • Topicality: The role of face masks in combating COVID-19 has received a lot of attention.
      • Existence value: Face masks seem like an important topic to understand, given the role they may play in infection control.

By November 1, 2020

  • Timeline of Amazon.com (expansion)
    • Vipul's reasons for marking this as priority work:
      • Pageviews (sufficient in isolation): The timeline has had over 4,000 pageviews since the last significant update on 2018-04-28.
      • Time since last update: The time since last update will be 2.5 years at the due date for this timeline. This is well above the 1-year minimum.
      • Qualitative outdatedness: There have been many developments at Amazon since the last update to the timeline.
      • Topicality: Interest in the timeline has increased in light of general increased in interest in Amazon due to COVID-19.
      • Cannibalization opportunity from Wikipedia: The corresponding timeline on Wikipedia gets comparable numbers of pageviews, so we have a doubling opportunity by improving search engine ranking.

By December 15, 2020

  • Timeline of vaccines (Expansion started on June 1, 2020): Expand, restructure, add columns and in particular make it a more useful timeline for people trying to understand vaccines in order to understand the prospects for a coronavirus vaccine.
    • Vipul's reasons for marking as priority work:
      • Pageviews: The timeline has had 500 pageviews since being published 2018-06-01. It's halfway to the 1000-pageview mark that is sufficient to trigger an expansion.

      • Topicality (almost sufficient): Vaccines are a subject of discussion these days with potential coronavirus (COVID-19) vaccines in the works.

  • Timeline of Tesla Motors (expansion)
    • Vipul's reasons for marking as priority work:
      • Time since last update (sufficient in isolation): The timeline passes the "five years since the last update" threshold; it has not undergone any significant expansion on Timelines wiki (it was last updated on Wikipedia, and the last paid update was in 2015).
      • Pageviews: The timeline has had almost 900 views on Timelines wiki as of mid-July 2020. At this rate, it should get 1,000 views by the due date of the expansion.

  • Timeline of artificial intelligence (new timeline)
    • Vipul's reasons for marking this as priority work:

    • Sebastian: First deadline date: April 1, 2020
  • Timeline of robotics (new timeline)
    • Vipul's reasons for marking this as priority work:
