2013 Foundation Evidence Action launches formally with the purpose to "scale up poverty interventions that have been proven to be effective in order to benefit millions of people". The same year, the organization begins leading and managing Dispensers for Safe Water and the Deworm the World Initiative, both programs incubated by Innovations for Poverty Action.[1]
2013 December Recognition Charity evaluator GiveWell chooses the Deworm the World Initiative at Evidence Action as one of its top 3 charities in 2013.[2]
2014 The full transition of Dispensers for Safe Water and Deworm the World Initiative from Innovations for Poverty Action to Evidence Action takes place.[1]
2014 May Donation Based on GiveWell’s recommendation of Deworm the World as a top charity for 2013, Good Ventures announces provision of US$1.5 million to Deworm the World Initiative at Evidence Action. The funds are donated by Good Ventures to “cover around 75% of the minimum level of funding that GiveWell would like to see its recommended charities raise during the 2013 giving season.”[3]
2014 June 3 Partnership Evidence Action announces partnership with One Percent for the Planet, an alliance of over 1,200 member companies in 48 countries that give one percent of revenues to environmental causes. The partnership allows EA to receive donations from 1% for the Planet member companies, placing it in the network of environmental organizations.[4]
2014 July 25 Evidence Action announces registration under South Pole Carbon’s International Water Purification Program, to generate carbon credits for Dispensers for Safe Water in Uganda.[5]
2014 Program Evidence Action Beta is launched as an in-house incubator with the plan to design, prototype, test and deliver measurably impactful, cost-effective programs that are ready for scaled implementation by Evidence Action and its partners.[6][1]
2014 Recognition GiveWell names the Deworm the World Initiative program one of its top-rated charities.[7]
2015 February Evidence Action assists the national government of India initiate National Deworming Day (NDD). The program reach extends to preschools, government schools, private schools, and out-of-school children, targeting all children aged 1-19.[8]
2016 January 27 Funding Good Ventures grants US$10.8 million to Evidence Action's Deworm the World Initiative program, which supports national school-based deworming programs in Kenya, India, and Ethiopia. The funds received are planned to further scale treatment of at-risk children in additional high-burden countries throughout the year.[9]
2016 May 9 Partnership Evidence Action announces a four-year partnership with RDRS Bangladesh, a leading development organization in northern Bangladesh. The partnership is aimed at reducing seasonal income insecurity in poor rural communities, with No Lean Season planning to reach 310,000 low-income households in Northern Bangladesh in the next four years.[10]
2016 November Evidence Action provides lymphatic filariasis treatment support to Kenyan Ministry of Health and its Neglected Tropical Disease (NTD) Unit. With the program, targeting over 2.3 million adults and children in all six of Kenya’s endemic counties, the drugs used are a combination of albendazole and diethylcarbamazine (DEC), provided at no cost by the World Health Organization global drug donation program.[11]
2016 November 29 Recognition Deworm the World Initiative is named top charity again by charity evaluator GiveWell.[12]
2017 February 22 Team Evidence Action announces Kanika Bahl as appointed EA's new CEO.[13]
2017 March Funding No Lean Season announces major support from the Global Innovation Fund (GIF), a London-headquartered investor in social innovations. The total investment from GIF for the next two years is $2,571,210. The funds are expected to be used to support the rigorous testing and expansion of No Lean Season in Bangladesh and Indonesia.[14]
2017 March 20 No Lean Season announces backing by American seed accelerator Y Combinator and the launch of an ambitious drive to combat seasonal poverty. No Lean Season’s participation in Y Combinator is expected to put the organization on track to reach half a million people in 2018, up from 140,000 in 2017.[15]
2017 April After re-examination, Evidence Action concludes that the Dispensers for Safe Water program’s evidence base continues to be robust and the program itself is highly cost-effective at roughly $1 per person per year.[16]
2017 September Recognition Dispensers for Safe Water program is honored during USAID’s Global Innovation Week as a member of the Million Lives Club.[16]
2017 October As of date, Evidence Action provides 652,000 people in Malawi with sustained access to clean water with 3,772 dispensers installed. In addition, EA provides over 2.3 million Kenyans with sustained access to clean water in the home with 18,512 dispensers installed; plus 1.75 million Ugandans with access to safe drinking water with 5,788 dispensers installed.[17]
2017 November Recognition GiveWell recognizes Dispensers for Safe Water as a Standout Charity, making Evidence Action the first organization to have three programs recognized by GiveWell for their cost-effectiveness.[16]
2017 December Evidence Action reports that Dispensers for Safe Water provided access to safe water for nearly 5 million individuals across Kenya, Uganda, and Malawi in 2017.[16]
