Vipul: "one reason overall average position can improve is if the proportion of users making the queries where we do well goes up (e.g. if we do well on Amazon-related terms, our performance will appear to go up when Amazon-related terms get more search traffic, even if our performance on the terms individually didn't change. I don't know if that's what's happening here, but you'll need to keep that kind of thing in mind)"
