This is a timeline of Evidence Action, A United States–based non–profit organization. Evidence Action leads and manages three initiatives: Dispensers for Safe Water, Deworm the World Initiative; both incubated initially by Innovations for Poverty Action (visit Timeline of Innovations for Poverty Action); and No Lean Season.

2013 Evidence Action launches formally. The organization undertakes management of two initiatives already assisting millions of people in Africa and Asia: Dispensers for Safe Water and the Deworm the World Initiative, both ran by non-profit research and policy organization Innovations for Poverty Action.[1]
2014 Full transition of Dispensers for Safe Water and Deworm the World Initiative from Innovations for Poverty Action to Evidence Action takes place. In the same year, Evidence Action Beta is created. Deworm the World Initiative is recognized by GiveWell as one of its top-rated charities.
2015 Institutional investors supporting Evidence Action more than double comparing to the previous year. Deworm the World Initiative treats 160 million children in the year.[2]
2016 Deworm the World Initiative, led by Evidence Action, helps treat over 196 million children in Kenya, India, Ethiopia, Vietnam and Nigeria, with some preliminary support introduced in Pakistan.[3] Dispensers for Safe Water program spending stands at approximately $4.7 million in the year.[4] Late in the year, Deworm the World Initiative is named top charity again by charity evaluator GiveWell.
2017 Evidence Action maintains high recognition through its programs. No Lean Season and Deworm the World Initiative are named Top Charities in 2017 by evaluator GiveWell,[2] whereas Dispensers for Safe Water is named Standout Charity.[5] Evidence Action reports that Dispensers for Safe Water provided access to safe water for nearly 5 million individuals across Kenya, Uganda, and Malawi in the year.

2013 August 23 Foundation American non-profit Innovations for Poverty Action announces launch of new organization called Evidence Action, created with IPA's support and aimed at taking cost-effective programs to scale to improve the lives of millions in Africa and Asia. Evidence Action is created with the claimed mission to bridge the gap between evidence about what works to alleviate poverty around the world and what is actually implemented.[1] The same year, Evidence Action begins leading and managing Dispensers for Safe Water and Deworm the World Initiative, both programs incubated by IPA.[8]
2013 December Recognition Charity evaluator GiveWell chooses Deworm the World Initiative at Evidence Action as one of its top 3 charities in 2013.[9]
2013 Year round Donation Four institutional investors support Evidence Action with a total of US$2,553,000 in the year.[10]:
  • The END Fund: $ 160,000 for Deworm the World
  • Give Well: $ 501,000 for Deworm the World
  • Good Ventures: $ 1,500,000 for Deworm the World

2014 The full transition of Dispensers for Safe Water and Deworm the World Initiative from Innovations for Poverty Action to Evidence Action takes place.[8]
2014 May Donation Based on GiveWell’s recommendation of Deworm the World as a top charity for 2013, Good Ventures announces provision of US$1.5 million to Deworm the World Initiative at Evidence Action. The funds are donated by Good Ventures to “cover around 75% of the minimum level of funding that GiveWell would like to see its recommended charities raise during the 2013 giving season.”[11]
2014 June 3 Partnership Evidence Action announces partnership with One Percent for the Planet, an alliance of over 1,200 member companies in 48 countries that give one percent of revenues to environmental causes. The partnership allows EA to receive donations from 1% for the Planet member companies, placing it in the network of environmental organizations.[12]
2014 July 25 Evidence Action announces registration under South Pole Carbon’s International Water Purification Program, to generate carbon credits for Dispensers for Safe Water in Uganda.[13]
2014 August 20 Donation American journalist Ezra Klein announces donation to Deworm the World Initiative, citing GiveWell's recommended charities.[14]
2014 August 25 Recommendation time.com cites Deworm the World as an recommended organization to "put donations to work where they’ll do the most good."[15]
2014 September Evidence Action shares a video developed by South Pole Carbon, which provides a snapshot of the benefits reaped from the Dispensers for Safe Water program in Uganda.[16]
2014 Program Evidence Action Beta is launched as an in-house incubator with the plan to design, prototype, test and deliver measurably impactful, cost-effective programs that are ready for scaled implementation by Evidence Action and its partners.[17][8]
2014 Recognition GiveWell names Deworm the World Initiative one of its top-rated charities.[18]

2016 January 27 Funding San Francisco-based private foundation Good Ventures grants US$10.8 million to Evidence Action's Deworm the World Initiative program, which supports national school-based deworming programs in Kenya, India, and Ethiopia. The funds received are planned to further scale treatment of at-risk children in additional high-burden countries throughout the year.[20]
2016 May 9 Partnership Evidence Action announces a four-year partnership with RDRS Bangladesh, a leading development organization in northern Bangladesh. The partnership is aimed at reducing seasonal income insecurity in poor rural communities, with No Lean Season planning to reach 310,000 low-income households in Northern Bangladesh in the next four years.[21]
2016 November Evidence Action provides lymphatic filariasis treatment support to Kenyan Ministry of Health and its Neglected Tropical Disease (NTD) Unit. With the program, targeting over 2.3 million adults and children in all six of Kenya’s endemic counties, the drugs used are a combination of albendazole and diethylcarbamazine (DEC), provided at no cost by the World Health Organization global drug donation program.[22]
2016 November 29 Recognition Deworm the World Initiative is named top charity again by charity evaluator GiveWell.[23]
2017 February 22 Team Evidence Action announces Kanika Bahl as appointed EA's new CEO.[24]
2017 March Funding No Lean Season announces major support from the Global Innovation Fund (GIF), a London-headquartered investor in social innovations. The total investment from GIF for the next two years is $2,571,210. The funds are expected to be used to support the rigorous testing and expansion of No Lean Season in Bangladesh and Indonesia.[25]
2017 March 20 No Lean Season announces backing by American seed accelerator Y Combinator and the launch of an ambitious drive to combat seasonal poverty. No Lean Season’s participation in Y Combinator is expected to put the organization on track to reach half a million people in 2018, up from 140,000 in 2017.[26]
2017 April After re-examination, Evidence Action concludes that the Dispensers for Safe Water program’s evidence base continues to be robust and the program itself is highly cost-effective at roughly $1 per person per year.[27]
2017 April Donation Good Ventures makes a grant of $2,642,300 to Evidence Action, which plans to use to strengthen its financial systems, human resources, and information technology. Good Venture's grant is made with two goals in mind: to support the development of programs that could be future top charities (the goal of our Incubation Grants program), and to support the Deworm the World Initiative.[28]
2017 September Recognition Dispensers for Safe Water program is honored during USAID’s Global Innovation Week as a member of the Million Lives Club.[27]
2017 October As of date, Evidence Action provides 652,000 people in Malawi with sustained access to clean water with 3,772 dispensers installed. In addition, EA provides over 2.3 million Kenyans with sustained access to clean water in the home with 18,512 dispensers installed; plus 1.75 million Ugandans with access to safe drinking water with 5,788 dispensers installed.[29]
2017 November Recognition GiveWell recognizes Dispensers for Safe Water as a Standout Charity, making Evidence Action the first organization to have three programs recognized by GiveWell for their cost-effectiveness.[27]
2017 December Evidence Action reports that Dispensers for Safe Water provided access to safe water for nearly 5 million individuals across Kenya, Uganda, and Malawi in 2017.[27]
