New timeline

Remove from list when updated to contract work page [2] and [3].

  • Timeline of Fabianism (address Pablo's feedback):
    • “The Fabian Society is founded in London in 1884 with early key figures like George Bernard Shaw and Sidney Webb, advocating for socialism through gradual reform rather than revolution.” Maybe revise the sentence so that it is not misread as implying that Shaw and Webb were among the founders of the Fabian Society.✔
    • “"Tract No. 1," also known as the Fabian Society Manifesto.” “Pamphlet No. 2 titled A Manifesto.” It seems that both tracts were called manifestos: is this so? Probably worth clarifying how they differ, whether they are both considered manifestos of the Fabian Society, etc.✔ (Sebastian: According to some sources, Shaw's tract, which is the second of the Fabian Society, is also considered to be the first Society's manifesto [4])
    • “focuse”. Typo.✔
    • “The Fabian Society publishes Tract No. 3”. Is this the same document mentioned in the previous bullet point?✔ (Sebastian: yes, it's a duplicate row)
    • “Radicalism than with socialism”. It would be useful to have a brief description of what is meant by ‘Radicalism’, and how it differs from socialism.✔
    • “By this time, the Fabian Society has grown to include approximately 20 founders and around 67 members.” Earlier you say that between 1884 and 1866 the Society increased its membership count from 13 to 116. So it went from 67 to 116 in the remainder of 1886? (Sebastian: there's a gap between 87 (20 founders and around 67 members) and 116) I checked both arguably contradicting sources and those are the obtained figures. Those numbers are not exactly the same, but they maybe close enough to be interpreted as different ways of reporting membership, potentially referring to different points in time or counting methods)
    • “George Bernard Shaw makes a significant contribution by presenting A Manifesto” You mention a manifesto again, so I’m really confused about the number of such documents published by the Society. Is this just Tract No. 2 or yet another manifesto?✔
    • “social change..” Remove duplicate period.✔

Sebastian: Overall, there are many contradicting sources. For example Tract°20, titled Questions for Poor Law Guardians, was created in 1900 according to this [5] source by University of Leeds, while according to Edward R. Pease, it was published in 1890.

Suggested time-sensitive content

With time-sensitive content, the idea may be to add a few additional important recent events to a timeline, without doing a systematic expansion. So, there may be holes in coverage. The "focused coverage period" banner on top can help to clarify the situation.

For instance, let's say you last expanded a timeline in March 2019, and it covers content till March 2019. You want to add a couple of significant events in 2020. You can do so, and keep the focused coverage period as March 2019. So readers get the information that the coverage after March 2019 will be only partial, and less complete than coverage until March 2019.

In some cases you may decide to do a more complete expansion while adding time-sensitive content, but this should be done only if time and mood permit.

  • Timeline of online food delivery (one of the most viewed timelines):
    • COVID-19 has probably boosted online food delivery a lot? This may deserve a mention.✔
    • DoorDash IPO (filed for one on November 13, IPO date still unclear)✘
      • Sebastian: It filed confidentially on February 27, 2020, but maybe we should wait until it becomes effective, as it remains private as of date.
